Scene Study: Basics
Acting Technique Class
Accessing vulnerability in acting through connecting truthfully to the most basic of concepts within a scene: relationship and need.
It’s on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly. ”
– Claude Monet
When an actor reads the script, they envision their performance within that scene. They imagine the result. But if they merely act out the end result, they miss the most important part – it is the process that creates a good performance. The study of acting is the study of this process. In the Basics of Scene Study, we will take our first steps into breaking down that process. Integrating warm-up work on accessing vulnerability and working with nerves, we will step into the basic concepts that are inherent in every scene. Actors will develop a deeper understanding of the process and a deeper understanding of themselves as they begin the real work of acting.
